It's that time of the year again...

Can you believe that it is almost August already? Teacher friends, forgive me, but I have to mention how close we are to beginning of school. I get super excited during this time of the year. My to-do list grows of all the awesome things that I want to try this year. I just can't wait!

But, then I remember that this year is going to be a little different. You may or may not know that I completed my administration license this summer. I think I am going to take a little break from school. I'd say, I deserve it! So, how is this year going to be different? Well... I accepted a job as the Student Support Specialist at our school. I can't believe that I am saying this, but I am trading my classroom keys for office keys and a large increase in students. In a nutshell, I will be working to support students at the school in many different ways. I will also work closely with teachers and their PLCs to make sure that we are providing the best experience for students at our school. Surprisingly, I thought that I would start to get sad as the year gets closer about not having a classroom, but I am actually getting excited about this new challenge. I have a lot of ideas to help build the community at our school and establish a safe and fun learning environment for all.

Therefore, you will see a transition in my posts on my blog. I know you will miss the daily posting from my various students, but I will work to post many different things for you to read throughout the school year. I think I will use this year to document my learning in my new role and share all the awesome things that we are doing at Meadow Ridge. It is my hope that my blog can evolve into a place where people can come to find resources, engage in meaningful education discussion, and simply share!

Buckle up, I think this is going to be a fun ride. We have a lot of work to do. I always think about the power of collaboration. We have so many good ideas. Those good ideas become even better realities, when we are able to work with our teams.

Ok, I am off to enjoy the rest of this beautiful Sunday! Watch for a post some time this week about building relationships. In my opinion, this is the single most important thing that all educators should be thinking about as summer comes to a close. Healthy relationships with not only your students, but also colleagues will go a long way to a successful, happy school year!

The 3 Rs

Say what?  Someone asked me a few days ago if I knew what the 3Rs meant? Quickly, I began thinking of 3 different, education-related words that began with R. Obviously, relationships would be one, but I couldn't think of any other ones. About 30 seconds went by, and then I heard, "relationships, relationships, relationships." These are the 3Rs, and relationships should be at the forefront of every educators' minds as we move closer to the start of the school year. Teachers have a unique job, where they get to establish brand-new relationships every year. This unique job presents challenges, but a challenge that all teachers must take on in order to have a successful school year. We all know that a strong student-teacher relationship will go a long way to having a successful school year with each child. Therefore, we need to make sure that we focus on building those relationships. Teachers also need to build relationships with their colleagues too. We have all he
